The National Solidarity Party (NSP) Election 2015

History

The National Solidarity Party (NSP) is a Political Party founded in 6 March 1987. We have maintained a sound moral standing which sustained our relevance to the citizens of Singapore for every election. As we keep abreast of public concerns and needs, we endeavour to become the guiding light and direction for Singapore’s political development.

Mission

NSP exists to uphold democracy, and to provide constructive ideas to benefit the Society. The Party positively promotes the establishment of a multi-party political system. It envisions to be a credible and caring political party.

Party Leadership - Recently Resigned Sec Gen Ms Hazel Poa

Ms Hazel Poa Koon Koon (born 27 August 1970) is a politician and businesswoman whom was the Secretary-General of the opposition National Solidarity Party (NSP) from 2011 to 2013, before stepping down due to health concerns. In June 2015, the party appointed her as Acting Secretary-General.

Who is NSP President - Sebastian Teo?

Mr Sebastian Teo started his career after graduating from the Nanyang University as an executive officer the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF). He was the head of purchasing department, he resigned in July 1975 and became managing director of his own company.

Graft conviction: Mr Teo was arrested by CPIB in September 1979. The anti-corruption bureau had found out that over a nine-month period from March to December 1975, he had taken money on 12 occasions from a vegetable supplier, in exchange for information on the name of the successful vegetable supply contractor and the price of vegetables contracted. The total amount involved was $60,200. Mr Teo pleaded guilty and was convicted in court on two charges of corruption in November 1979, with ten other charges taken into consideration. He was fined $15,000, and ordered to pay a penalty $10,500 for the court proceedings.

Bankruptcies: Bankruptcy Order were twice issued against Teo on 17 May 1985 (bankruptcy number 162/85)  and on 7 March 1986 (bankruptcy number 319/85).

Interesting Facts - No end to NSP's revolving Sec General Door

Besides the exodus of high profile members, which include Ms Nicole Seah and  former Sec General, Mrs Jeannette Chong-Aruldoss to SPP, the party has seen an extremely high turnover of Sec-Generals. All of them had had stints of less than two years each:

  • Law Sin Ling: Aug 2006 – Feb 2008 (18 months)
  • Ken Sunn: 2008 – 2009 (less than one year)
  • Goh Meng Seng: Feb 2010 – June 2011 (16 months)
  • Hazel Poa: June 2011 to September 2013 (15 months)
  • Jeannette Chong: Oct 2013 – Jan 2015 (15 months)
  • Tan Lam Siong: 26 Jan 2015 – 17 June 2015 (less than 5 months)
  • Hazel Poa: 25 June 2015 – 19 August 2015 (less than 2 months)
  • Future - Steve Chia ?
Potential Future Sec Gen - Steve Chia? A Controversial Figure

Steve Chia Kiah Hong is the current Treasurer of the  National Solidarity Party (NSP). He served as a Non-Constituency Member of Parliament (NCMP) from 2001 to 2006, during which time the NSP was part of the Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA).

Whilst serving as a NCMP, he was involved in a scandal when topless photos of his maid were discovered by his wife in his computer's "recycle bin". His wife lodged a police report. Mr Chia insisted that his maid had agreed to pose for the photos and that he did not force her to do so. He noted that he had an interest in nude photography, and even showed the press nude photos that he had taken of himself. In 2006, Chia was fined following an incident when he drove a car through a red light, causing a crash with a bus.

The Trolls have Won - 22nd August 2015 Latest

Steve Chia posted on his facebook that I will not be standing for this coming ‪#‎GE2015‬ and will not be contesting in ‪#‎MacPhersonSMC‬ anymore. He wishes WP well and encourage them to send a strong candidate and take down MacPherson SMC and take ‪#‎KateSpade‬ out of Parliament.

Rumors is swirling that it was due to a smear campaign by WP's supporters whom created a website baring all his colorful past: http://openmata.wix.com/stevechia

NSP  a.k.a "The Original Spidey"

In the latest media release by Ms Hazel Poa, she alarmingly states that unlike other political party structures, the leader of NSP Party is the President, Mr  Sebastian Teo Kway Huang and not the Secretary-General. She added that in NSP, the role of the Sec-Gen is merely that of a media spokesperson..... O_O''

With its frequent change of leadership and plans, it is hard to fathom what is NSP's next move and their concrete plans for Singapore. On 17 Aug 2015, the CEC of NSP decided to support Steve Chia’s request to contest in MacPherson SMC in a 3 cornered fight against WP and PAP after initially agreeing to withdraw. On 22nd Aug, Steve Chia suddenly announced his withdrawal from contesting in MacPherson SMC... So now.. is NSP going to send a New candidates or are they officially withdrawing from MaPherson SMC .... ?

Watch this Space... Amazingly Spidey... the intriguing web of NSP's keeps spinning.........

2011 Election Results

Spearheaded by Singapore's youngest Political candidate, Ms Nicole Seah, NSP captured 43.35% of the vote in Marine Parade GRC from the PAP. Rhis was seen as a huge achievement as the incumbent PAP had won 72.9% of the vote in the last election in1992 by-election. Also, the PAP team was helmed by a popular former Prime Minister, Goh Chok Tong. Indeed the PAP's winning percentage was lower than the national PAP average. Goh later gave his thoughts on the election result in an interview with the Straits Times in which he stated that he had expected better results and cited Seah as a factor for the NSP's good showing.
